Studies on the Taro Cultivating in Korea (1) Collection and investigation on the Local Varieties of Taro .


Abstract
The authors studied on the ecological characteristics of Taro of local varieties in Korea from 1966 to 1967, The results can be summarized as follow;
1). Green color degree of leaf-stalk, distribution of Anthocyan, plant height, crookedness of neck part, index of leaf type, eary and late varieties, and wiltin of leaves were differed from each Taro among local varieties.
2). Shape of corm has three types; (lateral tuber, 2nd lateral tuber and 3th lateral tuber). They were differed in the type and size in the lateral tuber and 2nd lateral tuber.
3). The chromosome number of Taro were 2n=42 in all of the varieties.
4). Local varieties of Hyupchun, Chungdo No. 1, Andong No.1, 2, 3, 4, and Youngjoo, have long leafstalk and thick. They are dark green in color and under parts were slender and long. So it is believed as the local varieties for leaf-stalk.
While the local varieties of Jinjoo, Kehchang No.1,2, Milyang No.1,2, Chungdo No.2, have short leaf-stalk. They are light green or dark green (Chungdo No.2) and under parts were big, thick round or cylindrical, so they are believed as local varieties for lateral tuber or 2nd lateral tuber.
Yuhsoo, Kehchang No.3, Hayang, Youngchun and Mokpo, have long leaf-stalk and that under parts were cylindrical and elongated round, so believed as local varieties for leaf-stalk, lateral tuber and 2nd lateral tuber
